Hi.. I just want to introduce myself and give a lil background on me. My name is Stacy, I am 32. I am currently a stay at home mom to my 2 year old son Rhyan. I also have a 14 year old daughter Ashley. I am married to Jeff, who does not understand all this at all. And I don't think he is really trying either, but thats OK as long as I try to better myself. I have over the last year begin to believe that I have ADD. Like a lot of you I have been labeled by my family as lazy, unorganized, etc.. I have also told my daughter many times how lazy she is.. (I did not know anything about ADD at the time).
How were you all diagnosed with ADD/ADHD? Did you go to a family dr. or someone else? I know I need to make me an appt. cause everything just catches up with me (unorganized and all). And I just feel overly depressed, overwhelmed all the time. My dr. put me on Lexapro but it takes the edge off of me but thats it, I don't feel my total overall problem is depression. I know my husband would love to come home to a clean house but I just don't even know where to start. So I know its time to do something about this. And as a kid I was always unorganized, very messy, did bad in school etc.
Now my daughter who is 14 if following in my footsteps. She will start head strong at school to begin with but within a month or two is all just falls. She forgets her homework, or she does her homework and forgets to turn it in. Her room is pathetic. among other things. She goes into a phychologist thursday to start her testing to see if she has this or what? I know she does, she has all the signs. but they say she will have (2) 3 hour tests, givin on different days. Have any of you ever went through anything like that? I know she is nervous.
Anyway, just wanted to say hi and give you all a lil background. I thought I would mention my daughter since she is 14 (older child just being diagnosed), and when I have checked on child ADD its always young children, a lot younger than her.

I am twenty four years old at first I asked my primay care physician what to do and she told me it was because i was overwhelmed by work. i thought well ok. Then I finally called the number to behavioral help on the back of my insurance card. I was brought in fo an evaluation. I attended weekly therapy sessions. There I recieved suggestions about how to organize my life. Writing things down was the bet thing for me. I purchased a planner one for work (I have been a teacher for the past couple of years) and one for home . I wrote down realistic expectations. my boyfried tried to support me (he complained but overall stayed supportive). I had the same problem with "being lazy." I wasn't lazy I made it this far in my life, there is no way that i can consider myself lazy. I am also in grad school to become a principal. I cam concentrate so much better. I actually take the time to write down a to-do list and my assignments. The best thing for you is not to tell your daughter she is lazy because she will not respond to you when you offer her help. Trust is very important especially at fourteen.

After all of that i saww a psycologist and i was diagnosed I am on medication now but there are still some issues. I did try to help my self first as much as I could but now i do fee much better.
