Hi!
I posted a few months ago when I was nervous about seeing a doctor, and thought I should come back here for a little more advice... Well, it seems my new doctor has add himself, so it was extremely easy do diagnose me and put me on Strattera, which has been terrible with me, but that's beside the point. I have a job interview tomorrow right after my doctor appointment, where I'm hopefully getting some much-needed antidepressants. How much do I tell a potential employer? should I let them know right away that I have ADD and thus can't properly organize anything (half of the job,) and will probably take twice as long to train? bottom line is, how much can I omit? any help would be awesome. thanks

Hi waphel,
I guess this post is a little too late to answer your question, but how did your interview go? I was going to suggest that you not mention your ADD. Most people don't understand it and therefore wouldn't know the positive affects ADD can have and would only see negatives. You can and probably should mention it after you are hired since it will affect your performance. I read in a book that the National Disabilities Act covers you from discrimnation based on your ADD, which means they can't fire you. However, before you are hired then it is really hard to prove that they didn't hire you because of your ADD.
Also, some side notes.... Have you thought about finding a job that doesn't require so much organizing? You said organizing is half the job so why would you want to put yourself in a situation where you feel you are doing half your job inadequetly? I would rather find a job that suits my strengths not enhances my weaknesses. Also, try to get on some medicine that works for you, which will probably help your organization skills and your attention span. I hope this is helpful and have a great day.

thanks for the help. The interview went great, I didn't mention it, though I feel really guilty aobut it. I'm still trying to find soem medication that's right for me, which is definetely NOT strattera. what a horrible experience that drug is. Anyway, I appreciate the help, and I have some more interviews coming up, so wish me luck!

I am so sorry that I was also too late to get back to you, but I wouldn't have told him either. There really is no reason to right now. It would only make him wonder if it is going to interfere with you job. I think you made the right choice.
