Hello all--
My husband was recently diagnosed with ADD (at age 32) although he has suspected he's had it since childhood. He was first prescribed Stattera but the side effects were too much for us (insomnia, difficulty urinating, premature ejaculation) so we have switched to Ritalin, and most recently the Ritalin LA (long acting). Side effects are minimal if any, but his problem is dosing and length of effect. His doctor doesn't want him taking more than 20mg twice a day. My husband feels that it wears off after about 4 hours which doesn't get him through the day at all. We also struggle with having to call for refills every month and it is expensive, but we feel worth it when it helps. I am also doing research on behavioral and diet therapies myself and plan to read "Driven to Distraction" as recommended by other members. Anyone else having problems getting dosage increased? I think it's because there isn't a lot of research on treating adults, but my husband is #220 and likely needs a greater dose (as long as side effects don't happen). Should we be seeing another doctor besides a general MD?? Any suggestions or thoughts would be appreciated. I've already learned a lot from this site.
