Hi this is my first time posting on this sight. I am 27 years old and was diagnosed with A.D.D when I was in second grade. I am the spacey lazy type of A.D.D person. I am a horiffic procrastinator, and I mean horiffic. Maybe procrastinator isn't even the right word because I don't put off doing things, I just don't do things period. I even procrastinate things that are fun. Like instead of going out and doing something fun on a weekend I will just lie around the house. This problem is a threat to my well being. It is ruining my life. So I was wondering if anyone knowes if there is a medication that can help with this problem. I know that stimulent medications can help you stay focused on a task in front of you but is there anything that can help with the motivation problem. Can Adderall help with this?

I too am a procrastinator and I am on ritalin. I find that whatever task I am suppose to be doing, if I prepare myself and get the things out in order to do the task prior to taking or prior to the ritalin kicking in, that it will help me be able to accomplish it. Ritalin most of the time helps me stay focused and what I realized was that whatever I was doing prior to the ritalin hitting, was what I really focused on once it hit. I used to play this matching tile game to relax but once the ritalin hit, I was hooked and I could not motivate myself to leave and go do something that I would rather not do. But when I got all the materials out for studying German and just went to lie down prior to the ritalin kicking in....it worked much better. Or sometimes I go for a walk until the ritalin kicks in and then once through the door I go straight to the chore that must be done. TEXT I have never tried anything except ritalin so I don't know if another drug would work better for procrastination or not. If you do find one, let me know. Jami

I have actually been on adderall and ritelin in the past. I asked if adderall can help because I only took for a little while and thought that I wouldn't know if it would help with that or not because I only took it for a short time. I did find that when I was on adderall I would be most comfortable focusing on one thing in front of me, like a book. My doctor wants me to try wellbutren, maybe that will help.

Seth,
I am not a fan of Welbutrin. I took it for a while and had some pretty adverse side effects. Keep an eye on your mood and stuff when you take it.
I don't understand why doc perscribe depression meds to treat ADD. If you take care of the ADD sypmtoms the depression usually is gone as well. Just my opinion.
I take adderall and I like it.

Seth, I wish I could tell you there is a miracle drug for procrastination, but I don't think it exists. I take Adderall XR and I really like it. I'm a bad procrastinator too. Adderall doesn't necessarily help you stop procrastinating, but it does help you get moving. And if you are doing something there's a higher chance you'll get somewhere closer to the activity you are supposed to be doing. I was on Wellbrutin briefly too. It didn't do anything for me.

Caitlin again. Just wanted to say I'm impressed you were diagnose so young. I'm 26 and I have inattentive ADD and I got diagnosed by a psych. after I was done with school! It could have helped a lot if I had known while I was in school.

Hi seth817 . I thought I was the only one with the "procratinating" problem. I my self have ADD. I am 25. I have yet to start a medication but my doctor wants me to try stratera. I never want to do anything...I have absoulutly no motivation. My doctor said stimulants are bad for you:can be addictive...So I am hoping this stratera helps. God bless you and take care.
