 Unbelieving Spouses

Hi,

I started dating a girl about six months ago, and told her right out of the gate about my ADD. (This was right about the time I had been officially diagnosed and started trying out meds.)

Her mother had depression, and used the diagnosis as an excuse for over medicating herself and to explain away any undesireable behaviors without putting any effort into changing them, so she was very hesitant to support my problem.

Mainly she was worried that I would be the same way, just explaining away the messes and forgetfullness and not trying to fix any of it.

Long story short, I don't take any meds now because neither of us liked who I was when I was on them. I don't see a therapist because I can't afford one, and My girlfriend doesn't really "believe" in ADD, and won't really support me when the symptoms arise.

Does anyone else have this problem? and how do you deal with it?
